TechNet Webcast: Managing Network Bandwidth with Windows Vista
Apple iPod “Fairplay” cracked
The guy originally behind cracking the code that now allows DVDs to be copied, has now come up with the technology that allows songs bought through iTunes to be played on other MP3 players, not just the iPod. At present, any song bought from iTunes can only be played on an iPod due to the Fairplay encryption technology used by Apple.
Jon Lech Johansen’s technology is well within legal bounds and he is looking at selling it to other music stores interested in giving iTunes a run for their money through a more open competition for legal MP3 downloads.
I read about the story here. Thankfully we don’t have to worry about the iTunes music store, as Apple has not even managed to grace our shores and when questioned has said the intention has never been there.

Device Profile Update for Flash Lite
Might be time to get a new phone - I see that there are several on the Vodafone network that I can choose from that can have Flash Lite 1.1 installed to it. I’m partial to clam phones, being a girly girl and all - and besides phones in Japan there were never any to choose from in New Zealand that were clam and Flash Lite compatible. Correct me if I’m wrong?
Flash Lite Contest
Several Flash Lite usergroups around the world have combined to organize a Flash Lite Contest. The deadline is February 28, 2007 and there are mobile phones, an iRiver and Adobe software up for grabs - so definitely worth submitting your work.
Last year Zodal was in the top 5 with our Hakamania mobile phone and internet connected game.
Good Luck everyone!
Rod Drury at the Hi Tech Breakfast
NZTE in Christchurch host monthly breakfasts with a range of speakers from New Zealand’s hi tech industry. Yesterday was the second time I had been to one. Rod Drury was an excellent straightforward speaker and it was very interesting to hear his take on the value of building up a company for a trade sale vs VC funding vs Angel Investors.
I particularly liked the enthusiam that Rod had for “sexy” 2.0 web technologies like Ajax and the use of Ruby on Rails.
More about Rod can be found here
An extensive “live” blog from the breakfast can be read here . Michael has done such a good job of summarizing the event, there really is no need for me to
